MORE BIRDS BIG IMPROVEMENT

:
As a free app this is a great way to get started in birding. The new manual helps immensely in understanding how to take advantage of the power but I was able to figure it out without reading it.

Adding another 15 birds was another good idea, as 30 is enough to get the idea of the search features and the variety is more entertaining.

I've been waiting for this upgrade so i could test the Notes feature, and I can now say its pretty awesome. It does not let me save GPS coordinates but it does time and date stamping. This version of iBird has all the capability of the professional version but is limited to 30 popular bird species of North America. There are even a few from Hawaii but strictly speaking Hawaii is not in North America. The Notes and some of the other features have convinced me to purchase the full version.

I particularly like that you can search by song. While this free app has enough functionality to grasp the power of the full iBird app, I would have liked if they had included a few more varieties of birds such as falcons, swallows, sandpipers, etc. I'd even pay 99 cents for a larger sample. Still impressive functionality.

The bird calls are excellent on the iPhone because they can be heard even outdoors.

New Birds Improvement

:
This app helped me pick iBird over Sibley and Audubon. The fact it had both drawings AND photos plus a very powerful search engine along with a humongous amount of data clinched it. However I had to upgrade to iOS 4.2 before it worked.

This version of iBird has all the capability of the professional version but is limited to 30 popular bird species of North America. The Notes, Favorites, Birdipedia, Flickr, multiple vocalizations and other features have convinced me to purchase the full version.

The bird calls from Cornell university are excellent on the iPhone because they can be heard even outdoors.
